Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Battery wont charge, kohler engine, stator

Question
John--I have a Craftsman mower with a 25 hp Kohler engine. Model number CV730.  It is not charging the battery. How do I check to determine if it is the rectifier-regulator or the stator or your opinion on what it might be.  Thanks alot!!!!!!!!

Answer
Hello Bill:

Usually if the Engine has a Rectifier/Regulator, then the Rectifier/Regulator is Bad. Very Seldom will the Stator Go Bad if the Rectifier/Regulator is Not a Built in Component. Replace the Rectifier/Regulator. To Check the Stator; Disconnect the Rectifier/Regulator and Check for Voltage from the Stator. Depending on the Model the Voltage from the Stator May be AC or DC Voltage. Hope this Helps. I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Let me Know What Happens, Please. Thanks.

Good Luck
