Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): drive chain McLane mower, set screw, reel mower

Question
What might the chain to keep slipping off the sprocket on our mower (and killing the engine?  The mower is a McLane 20 inch front throw, self-propelled and is about 15 years old.  We are trying to figure out if this something we can fix ourselves or need to take it in.

Answer
Hello Karee:

A Worn/Stretched Chain, a Worn Sprocket and a Loose Set Screw (Causing the Chain to Run at an Angle) will Cause the Chain to Jump the Sprockets and Create the Problem you Described. You can View a Complete Manaul with Breakdown at this Site Addy; http://www.mclanemower.com/ownersmanual.asp and Select the Manual you Wish to Download for Online Viewing. I Selected the 20" and 25" Reel Mower/Self Propelled. Hope this Helps. I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Let me Know What Happens, Please. Thanks.

Good Luck
