Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): craftsman blower wont start, minimum compression, exhaust port

Question
John,
I have a blower model number 358.797342 and after 4-5 years of uninterrupted use it will not start. I have 60 lbs compression, spark & fuel with a new plug that gets flooded when trying to start.  I use the same fuel in the weed eater with no problems.  The only problem I could find was the loose housing that held the pull rope.  When I took the muffler off there was no number 5 or spark arrester from the web site diagram on the muffler ...  assuming it is internal???  I tried to start it with no muffler with no luck, is 60 lbs too low???  Could the spark be strong enough to see, but when under load is not strong enough to fire???  Thank you for your help!
Jeff

Answer
Hello Jeff:

It Sounds like the Rings are Stuck or Broken. 80 PSI is the Minimum Compression Required for an Engine to Run. 60 PSI is Way too Low. Remove the Spark Plug and Pout a Small Amount of Engine Oil( 1/2 oz) Into the Spark Plug Hole and Replace the Plug. Try to Start the Engine. What Happens? Look Into the Exhaust Port. Is the Cylinder and Piston Scratched or Scarred? Thanks.
