Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Craftsman 917.258524-repair manual and spring for disengaging blades, craftsman 917, www3

Question
I'm desperate.  My friend, thinking he'd save me some money, took my lawn tractor to a regular mechanic to have my drive belt put back on, and the spring that fell off, that disengages the blades.  The guy has had it for 1-1/2 months now because he doesn't know how, or where to put the spring back on. Sooo...
1.Do you know where I can get a repair manual for the lawn tractor? Sears no longer provides them.  I have one for the engine, but not the tractor itself.
2. Do you have a diagram, or could you please explain where this large spring goes and how to install it.
Before I took it to him, I could still start up by really pushing down on the disengage level. The only problem was, I couldn't disengage the blades just to drive around.  I found the large spring laying in the yard the day the disengage problem started.  It's an annoying problem but not a big deal for me. Would there be any forseeable problems if we just left it off?

Answer
Hello Gayle:

Some of these Springs Attach to a Slot in the Deck and on the Engaging Idler to Make the Idler Fully Release. Go to this Site Addy, http://www3.sears.com/ and Enter the Model Numbers in the Upper Left Search Box and Click Go. Then Visually Verify the Equipment and Click Continue. From this Page you can View Diagrams or Parts Lists for you Equipment. Select the Mower Deck Diagram. You can Purchase a Manual from Sears or from Outdoor Distributors @ 1-877-707-2787. Hope this Helps. I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Let me Know What Happens, Please. Thanks.

Good Luck
