Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Tecumseh engine / oil seal replacement, tecumseh tools, oil seal

Question
I've diagnosed an oil leak to the oil seal at the top of the engine.  I have a new seal and the Tecumseh tools to install it (without removing the crankshaft).  I'm having difficulty getting the very small groove (where the outer edge of the oil seal fits) perfectly clean.  The groove appears to be deeper than the lip on the oil seal.  Should I keep at it until it is perfectly clean?  Should I use a high temp RTV along with the oil seal in this groove?

Answer
Hello Paul:

If the Seal can be Pressed Into the Engine Block Properly, then Leave the Groove Alone. You Should Not Require Any RTV on the Seal. Usually Just Replacing the Seal Stops the Leak if the Engine Mating Surface is Not Damaged. Hope this Helps. I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Let me Know What Happens, Please. Thanks.

Good Luck
