Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): John Deere 445, stator coil, john deere 445

Question
My Lawn tractor quits after a few minutes of running on its own.  The battery
won't charge, so I have to usually jump it and it starts right up.  I tested the
two wires coming out of the stator and have 20Volts until it gets close to
dying and it sinks to 10 for about thirty seconds before it quits.  I was told
the stator should be putting out 28-30Volts.  Is that right?  Do I need to
replace the stator (coil)?  My son and I recently spent some time removing and
replacing the flywheel.  I'm guessing we may have done something to the
stator.

Answer
Hello John:

It Sounds like the Stator is Heating Up. The 28 to 30 Volts Sounds Correct. You can View a Breakdown/IPL of the Mower at this Site Addy, http://jdpc.deere.com/jdpc/servlet/com.deere.u90490.partscatalog.view.servlets.H... and Enter the Model Numbers and Click Find. Then Select the Sectional File. Then Select the Section of the Mower you Wish to View Online. When Jumping a Mower, Use a Battery Only. Never Run a Vehicle while Trying to Start a Mower. The High Amperage of the Vehicles Alternator will Burn the Stator and the Mower Will Not Charge. Leave the Vehicle Turned Off when you Turn On the Ign Switch of the Mower. Hope this Helps. I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Let me Know What Happens, Please. Thanks.

Good Luck
