Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): fuel pump on briggs & stratton 14.5 hp, electric fuel pump, briggs stratton

Question
I just bought a 14.5hp to replace my blown 12.5hp on my ridding lawn mower, the new engine I think has an electric fuel pump as there is a wire coming from the carb. bowl, my problem is that my old engine didn't have this. How do I get power to the fuel pump. 14.5hp,model-287707,type-12-24-E1, code-000118ZD

Answer
Hello Carl:

The Component is Not a Fuel Pump. The Component is a Fuel Shut Off Solenoid. Attach a Wire to the Ignition Switch so the Solenoid has Power ONLY when the Ign Switch is in the RUN Position. This Opens the Solenoid and Allows Gas to Flow to the Carburetor Jet. I Also Suggest you Install a Fuse in the Line to the Solenoid as Close to the Ign Switch as Possible. You can View a Breakdown/IPL of this Engine at this Site Addy, http://www.smallenginepartswarehouse.com/parts.asp and Select the Shop Online Parts Look Up. Then Select the Model Tab. Then Select the OEM and Enter the Model and Type Numbers. Then Double Click on the Model in the Results Area. Now you can Select the Section of the Engine you Wish to View. Hope this Helps.
