Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Cannot remove battery, pldm, hydrostatic drive

Question
I have a Sears Mid-Engine Rider 30" Mower/Mulcher Hydrostatic Drive Model 536.270320 and I can't get the battery out! The instructions are vague at best and I guess I know why. This must be a design flaw. It appears that it can be removed via a back plate. I've already remove 6 bolts and 4 other mounting bolts (for the battery mount) and I still cannot remove the back plate. Now, it appears that I need to remove to seat hinges, and then, maybe, I'll be able to remove the back plate. Even then, The top frame is now unstable and I'll be lucky to get everything back together correctly. Am I the only person to have this problem. Thanks, Bob
