Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): engine overhaul, question pool, type numbers

Question
I dismantle my Briggs engine model 28T707 12.5 HP ,found a seized bearing and scorched crankshat and connecting rod, I want to used an old crankshaft and piston from a model 28T707 but of 13 HP, measurements are the same, do you think it will not make any difference as far as compression is concern and engine performance.? And what is a short block if I use one? Am considering just buying the connecting rod only and use the old crankshaft and piston with rings which I feel is still good. Will appreciate your opinion on this. Thanks.

Answer
Hello Dan:

Sorry for the Delay. This Question was Located in the Question Pool. When I First Started Working on Mowers, I Did the Rebuild as you are Questioning About Several Times. It Always Worked for me. do Not Worry About the Rod. You will Not be Able to Tell the Difference. Be Sure you De-Glaze the Cylinder Before Installing the Piston so the Rings can Seat/Reseat. You can View a Breakdown/IPL of this Engine at this Site Addy, http://www.smallenginepartswarehouse.com/parts.asp and Select the Shop Online Parts Look Up. Then Select the Model Tab. Then Select the OEM and Enter the Model and Type Numbers. Then Double Click on the Model in the Results Area. Now you can Select the Section of the Engine you Wish to View. Hope this Helps. I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Let me Know What Happens, Please. Thanks.

Good Luck
