Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): 6.5 HP Briggs, craftsman model, hp briggs

Question
This is my father-in-laws unit, a 2006 21" 6.5 hp B/S Craftsman Rotary Mower. This is his 2nd mower since pruchasng his first one in Sept. 06 then returning it in Oct. for another one. Then when he began his mowing season this year, it has demonstrated the same problems as the 1st one. It will run for a short period of time, then die. New gas, clean tank, new mowers same problems with both units. He has not received very good customer service from Sears, they shipped the 2nd unit off to KC for repair and he lives in Wichita, KS without a replacement. He was offered $100 towards his dissatisfaction. He is puzzled on what the cause is of this problem. Have you come across this in the B/S 6.5 hp on the Craftsman? Model 917.370712.

I'll let you know if I ever need some M60 Tank maintenance done!!

Thanks

Answer
Don't take the mower to Sears.
Take the mower to a Briggs dealer for the warranty work.

Is a short period 3 seconds, 3 minutes or 30 minutes?
The answer to that question is very important.

If 3 seconds, bad fuel in the carb. I'm guessing he left fuel in the engine over the winter and he has a clogged main jet.  Fresh fuel in the tank won't fix the problem caused by the stale fuel in the carb. It will need a carb cleaning, not warranty.

Don't ever have anything repaired by the men at Sears.  Unless they are a private contractor they are under paid and under qualified.
