Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): MTD REAR TINE TILLER, rear tine tiller, hounds of hell

Question
Paul,
I need to remove the wheels to get into the gear box and replace a pin.  How do I get the wheels off? The mechanic that I took the tiller to doesn't even know how to get the wheels off.

Answer
The wheels are currently being held on by "The Hounds of Hell"

Tiller wheels seize on the shaft on a regular basis.

No secret answer Chris. You may be out of luck.

Tilt the tiller on it's side and soak the upper wheel with penetrating oil, NOT WD40, real penetrating oil, and hope it will come off.  If it does turn the tiller on the other side and repeat the process for the other side.

Good luck Chris, you are going to need it.
