Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): ignition switch on a craftsman riding mower, sears service center, craftsman riding mower

Question
My husband took the wires out of the ignition switch and cant remember what wire goes where. Its model 917.27041 serial 041498B003561   Can you help with that?

Answer
Sorry Nora, Thats not a good model number.  Not enough digits.  If the last digit should have been a 0, I can't find any wiring diagram of any kind.

Sears just doesn't have those resources.  In the eyes of Sears you don't fix the wiring, you replace the wiring harness.  The good news is the harness is only 53.00.

If you took it to Sears for repair their techs are not qualified in electrical diagnosis. There techs aren't qualified to be a setup/oil change man, in my shop.  They swap parts. It would take Sears techs an eternity to find the problem.  So instead of paying 75.00 in trouble shooting time, you spend 53.00 for a harness and 20.00 for the guy to install it.

I recently was offered a job to be the "Lead Tech"/service manager at a Sears Service center.  They were willing to pay me 11.50 an hour to start.  My lowest tech who is 18 started at 11.50 an hour plus, 10% commision on his labor.

Keep this in mind for all your repairs, refrigerator, washing machine, lawn mowers, etc.  Sears techs are generally under paid and under qualified.
