Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Mystery Mower, drive transmission, older models

Question
Hi, John
I bought a used mower awhile back; owner knows nothing; i can't figure out what it is!
It looks just like a rear-engine Snapper, only it's about 6-or-8 inches longer and has a hydraulic drive-transmission.  The thing will absolutely fly!  It has a Briggs motor on it.  I would like to keep it, but if i can't get parts for it, i need to sell it...
Any ideas?
thanks,
Wayne

Answer
Hello Wayne:

Toro, Snapper and a Few Others have a Similar Mower. Snapper was the Most Popular Rear Engine Rider for a Number of Years. Snapper had a Few of these with the Hydraulic Transaxle. So Did Toro. Is there Some Way you can Post a Picture of the Mower from Several Angles? Some of the Older Models had the Model Numbers Stamped Into the Frame. The Newer Ones have Stickers. A Question for you. Why did they Stop Stamping the Frames and Start Using Stickers. They Know the Stickers are Going to Peel Off and Be Lost and it is Going to Make Getting Parts that Much Harder Without the Model and Serial Numbers. Was Just Wondering. Now we have to Hunt for a Stamped Model Number and Hope ther is One. The Model Numbers were Stamped in Several Places. Under the Seat on the Frame Pipe. On the Lower Section of the Steering Shaft. On the Rear Plate Beside the Engine. If No Model Numbers are Stamped Into the Frame, then I Require the Pictures to Assist Further. Parts are Avaliable for the Mower. It is Just a Matter of Locating the Model. What is the Cut Path of the Machine? Does it have a Brake Pedal and a Clutch/Brake Pedal or Just a Clutch/Brake Pedal? Is the Engine Electric Start and Rope Start or Rope Start Only? This will Assist if it is a Snapper. Thanks.
