Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Toro SR-21S (20043) Self Propel Problem, pace system, personal pace

Question
I have a Toro SR-21S that I have had for about seven years.  Recently, the
self-propel (personal pace system) has not been the greatest. When I push
down to engage it, the belt moves but the wheels only engage sporadically. I
took both wheels off and the gears were in good shape and I greased them. I
also tightened the self-propel tension.  Neither worked.  I took apart the
actual transmission box and those gears also looked fine.  The only other
thing I can think of is the belt needs to be replaced.  Any thoughts would be
much appreciated.

Answer
Hello Patrick:

When you Inspected the Gears in the Transmission, Did you Remove the Gears and Inspect the Axle. The Newer Axles have Ears that Hold the Gears so they Turn the Shaft. These Ears Shear or Become Worn and Will Cause the Problem you Described. I Suggest you Replace the Belt if you have Doubts about it. If the Problem Remains, then Remove the Gears from the Axle and Inspect the Axle. The Numbers you Sent me are the Series Numbers. Send me the Model Numbers Off the Mower, Please. With these I can Locate the Proper Manual and Better Assist you. Hope this Helps. I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Let me Know What Happens, Please. Thanks.

Good Luck
