Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Riding mower transmission, riding lawnmower, tension spring

Question
I have a 1997 Scotts riding lawnmower that has very little power with the hydrostatic.  The engine runs fine, but I cannot get up much of an incline.  I replaced the drive belt but it didn't help.  Should I try another drive belt?  Or is there something wrong in the transmission?  Anything a DIYer can repair?   Thanks

Answer
Hello Bill:

Check the Tension Spring. You can View a Breakdown/IPL of the Mower at this Site Addy, http://jdpc.deere.com/jdpc/servlet/com.deere.u90490.partscatalog.view.servlets.H... and Enter the Model Numbers and Click Find. Then Select the Sectional File. Then Select the Section of the Mower you Wish to View Online. Is the Fluid Resevior Bottle Full of Fluid? Hope this Helps. I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Let me Know What Happens, Please. Thanks.

Good Luck
