Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): electric fuel pump, electric fuel pump, bolt holes

Question
QUESTION: A replacement engine (Kohler CV492S) came without a mechanical fuel pump.  Where can I get an "electric pulse fuel pump" to use instead?  Thank you.
ANSWER: Spec numbers would really help here. My guess is you just have the wrong spec motor. The big problem is there isn't really a pulse pump that will fit this engine. Kohler uses mechanical or gravity feed systems. A pulse pump runs off of crankcase vacuum and is not electric. An electric pump puts out to many PSI of pressure for this engines needle and seat to hold back.
Look at the block and see if there is a small oval shaped metal plate attached to the side of the block. This is where a mechanical fuel pump would go. If it has the plate remove it and install a mechanical pump, Kohler part number 12 010 31-S.
The only electric pump I can find with a low enough PSI output for this engine is on a John Deere Gator. The Deere part number is,AM876265. Unfortunately the cost is 117.89

"Someone" is wrong it needs to be 2psi. the mechanical pump on this model engine only puts out 1.5 PSI.
How much is the pump? Is there a cover on your block where the pump would go? It still would probably be your cheapest remedy.

QUESTION: Hi Paul,
Based on what you just told me, the fuel pump I have in mind is the Facet model 60104 or 40104, which have a min/max shutoff pressure of 1.5/4.0 psi.  They're about $20-$30 and I plan on mounting them on the mower deck, somewhere between the gas tank and the motor.  They seem perfect for this application.I have a Husqvarna CZ4817 zero-turn mower.

To answer your previous question, the CV492S replacement motor does not have a plate over the fuel pump location.  The casting has the mounting, but the bolt holes are not tapped and the opening is part of the casting wall.  Maybe if I cut out the opening with a Dremel and tap the bolt holes I could mount the old pump but I'm not sure the new motor has the fuel pump cam inside.

Answer
Hey thank you for the help. I won't be using 100.00+ pumps on Gators anymore.
You can go directly to Kohler's dealer web site and sign in as a guest.
You can check your spec engine and compare it to an engine with a fuel pump and see if the camshafts have the same part numbers. Personally I'd use the electric pump if you can fined a reliable way to wire it.
