Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Smoking deck belts, cub cadet 1027, idler pulleys

Question
Cub Cadet 1027 (13A-328-101 - MFG Code 6E100I10028)

Last year I replaced the the blade on the tractor.

On the last cut of the year, my belt broke.

In the spring I replaced all three belts on this machine.

After doing so, I can start and drive around with no problem whatsoever.

However, when I engage the blade, I start to see smoke. If I Disengage the blade smoke stops.

Could this be a frozen pulley or maybe I tightened the blade on t tight?

What steps can you recommend for me to troubleshoot with to determine my point of failure?

Answer
Hello Sean:

Remove the Cutter Deck and Check the Idler Pulleys and the Blade Mandrals/Spindles for being Frozen. Check the Belt Routing and Make Sure you have the Belts Routed Properly. I Do Not Think the Belt being too Tight is the Cause of the Problem. You can View a Breakdown/IPL of this Mower at this Site Addy, http://www.smallenginepartswarehouse.com/parts.asp and Select the Shop Online Parts Look Up. Then Select the Model Tab. Then Select the OEM and Enter the Model Numbers. Then Double Click on the Model in the Results Area. Now you can Select the Section of the Mower you Wish to View. Hope this Helps.
