Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Lawn-Boy self propelled not working, vice grip pliers, roll pins

Question
Lawn-Boy SilverPro Model 10323 ans also a Lawn-Boy Insight Model 10685(just out of two year warranty).  Neither mower is self propelling.  Belt from drive shaft moving top gear on both transmissions.  Removed cover from tansmission--all gears appear to be OK.  Can turn axles by hand and wheels turn.  Some unusual threshing sound comes from newest mower when engaged.  Both mowers seem to have same problem--a little different transmissions.  Also lubed wheels thru gease fittings on older model.  Any help would be greatly appreciated--Thanks, Bob in Tennessee

Answer
Hello Bob:

You can View a Breakdown of these Mowers at this Site Addy; https://lookup3.toro.com/partdex/default.cfm?xCaller=LawnBoy and Select Start Parts Viewer. Now Enter the Model Numbers. Now Select View Assembly Drawings. Now Select the Section of the Mower you Wish to View. Is the Noise Coming from the Transmission? If Yes, then Check the Roll Pins that Hold the Gears to the Axle. Sometimes these Shear and Unless there is Pressure on the Shaft (from the Wheels) you can Turn the Axle and Everything Turns. Hold the Pinion Shaft (has Belt Pulley) with Vice Grip Pliers and Turn the Axle with Another Vice Grip Pliers. If the Axle Turns and the Pinion Shaft Does Not, then the Roll Pin has Sheared. Check the Wheel Drive Assemblies First, as these are Normally where the Problem is Located. These are Simple Transmissions. If the Gears Look Good and No Teeth are Broken and the Roll Pins are Not Sheared, then your Problem is in the Wheel Drive Assemblies. Clean,Inspectand Lubricate the Wheel Assemblies Carefully. Hope this Helps. I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Let me Know What Happens, Please. Thanks.

Good Luck
