Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Ryobi bc30 will not start, plug fire, hi john

Question
QUESTION: Hi I have a ryobi bc30 that will not start. I looked in the manual and it said that if it was not starting to take the spark plug off and turn it over to see if there is a spark. I did that and there was not so it said to replace the spark plug so I did that and there is still no spark. It does not tell me anything else to do. Could you please help me. Thank you for your time.

ANSWER: Hello Thomas:

Wrap the Threaded Section of the Plug with Wire, then Attach the Other End of the Wire to the Engine Block. Now, Remove the Coil Shut Off Wire at the Shut Off Switch. Check for Fire. If No Fire, then Remove the Cut Off Wire from the Coil (removal of the blower housing required) and Check for Fire.  Turning the Engine By Hand (giving a Quick Twist with the Wrist) is Enough to Make the Coil Fire the Plug. If Still No Fire, then the Coil/Ign Module is Bad. Send me the Model Numbers Off the Trimmer, Please. With these I can Locate the Proper Manual and Better Assist you. Hope this Helps. I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Let me Know What Happens, Please. Thanks.

QUESTION: Hi John first off thank you very much for the prompt response. I tried the things you suggested and it still is not sparking. I am guessing I should get a new coil/ign module. Is this correct? Oh the model number is RY30004D. Thanks again for your help. Thanks allot.

Answer
Hello Again Thomas:

This May Sound Crazy, But Have you Seen the New Plug Fire? If Not, then Check the New Plug in you Mower. I have Changed Coils/Ign Modules and Still had No Fire, Only to Find the New Plug was the Cause. We have a Shop Rule that All Plugs Must Test for Firing Before Installing in Equipment. It is Rare for a Homeowner to Get a Bad Plug, but it Happens More Often than One would Think. If you are Sure the Plug is Good and the Diagnostic you Performed Did Not Result in the Plug Firing, then you are Correct. The Coil/Ign Module is Bad. Thanks for the Model Numbers. If you Require Parts and Want to Shop for them Online, then Go to this Site Addy; http://www.ryobioutdoor.com/ and Select the Instructions that are Correct for you Equipment. Hope this Helps.
