Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): cord on craftman weedwacker, redmax trimmer, unclaimed freight store

Question
I have a craftman weedwacker, I made the mistake of leaving it down i usually keep it up on the wall. One of the children pulled the cord all the way out playing with it i believe. As you know no one knows what happened, no one is quilty. I enjoy toying with keeping my equipment in shape. Is this something I can fix myself  if so how do I began. I know it's my responsible if it works or not so shoot.

Answer
Don't blame the kids. Shoot the trimmer. The trimmer is just junk.  If you brought it into my shop I would immediately escort you to the big green box in our back lot.  The big green box is the trash dumpster.  A comparable trimmer can be bought at the local unclaimed freight store here in Kansas City for 49.99.  The parts you will need will be at least half of this price.  have you ever repaired a recoil starter of any kind?  If the answer is yes, start ripping parts off of the front until you get to the starter.  It will be like every other starter made in the world only smaller.  If you have never done a starter before this is not the product to learn on.

Have you ever seen the gag where the clown opens the can and all the snakes fly out.  That is what the inside of a starter will do.  The only difference is that instead of fabric snakes you get sharp metal springs.

Difficulty level 7 on a 1-10 scale.

I recommend buying a Shindaiwa or RedMax trimmer.  I know, you have never heard of these brands, but, every commercial mower you see out mowing lawns has these two brands almost exclusively.  The trimmer will cost 200.00 but the only person that will have to worry about the starter will be the "kids" WHEN THEY ARE 30!!
