Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): no spark on tecumseh ohv-175-204803A, air gaps, air gap

Question
Hi John,  I own a murry riding mower W/tecumseh motor. The engine dies out when it gets hot then I have to wait for it to cool down, so it will run again. Now it won't start.  I thought it was the kill switch under the seat. I replaced the switch and it still won't start up, so I replaced the spark plug and still won't start. I checked for a spark, and none whatsoever. so I changed out the solid state Ignition and properly set the air gap between the flywheel magnets and also the the spark plug. It fired right up the first time then about a couple of minutes later it died out again. I rechecked all the air gaps on both items, and no sparks. I hope you can help me figure out the problem.  Thank you

Answer
Hello Jessie:

Reset the Coil to .020in. I know the OEM says .010in but I have Found this to be too Close on Some Engines and the Coil is Hit by the Flywheel Sometimes if the Flywheel Key Gets Damaged. Remove the Coil Shut Off Wire at the Coil and Check for Spark. If No Spark, then the New Coil is Bad. If there is Spark, then a Safety Switch is Causing the Problem. Send me the Model Numbers Off the Mower, Please. With these I can Locate the Proper Manual and Better Assist you. Hope this Helps. I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Let me Know What Happens, Please. Thanks.

Good Luck
