Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Lowes MTD Riding Mower 16HP Twin II ,engine 42A707, john deere model, speed jet

Question
Just bought this mower. It seems to be lopingm reving up then right back down. It does this at idle and top speed. Also, the top speed or rpm is not where it needs to be...too slow. I can see the govenor moving back and forward when its loping. I've never owned or worked on a Twin before. I need for someone to tell me or let me know where I can get the information/instructions for adjusting the govenor, choke, high speed jet, etc. I also have a nice portable generator by John Deere....model 550 GE 5000-5500 watts. It has a 11hp B&S engine that runs great. The problem is no output voltage due to a bad stator. Resistance from ground to stator housing is too high. Do you have, know someone or somewhere that I could purchase a replacement stator. New,used,rebuilt...it doesnt matter to me. Thanks for any help with these prblems.

Answer
Question 2 first.  The stator will cost more than a new generator.  Your only hope is to find a generator on Ebay with a blown engine.

The loping is from a dirty carb.  Working on a "twin" is no different than working on a single or a V8. All engines work the same.  There is no adjusting this engine. Thank the EPA.  You need to clean the carb.  This WILL NOT be warranty.
