Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Poulan woodsman 2000, clutch shoes, clutch assembly

Question
Hey John,
Got a Poulan 16" woodsman chainsaw that nees a new clutch drum. Sprocket is flat worn out a groove is almost worn completly to shaft. Question is How do I get the darn thing off to replace it?

Answer
Hello Jack:

You can Try 2 Ways. 1- Using a 1/2 Wide Chisel and a Hammer, Hit the Out Edge of the Clutch in the Same Direction as the Engine Turns to Loosen the Clutch Assembly. There is a Raised Area that You can Safely Hit and Not Damage the Clutch Shoes or Springs. If the Clutch is Really Tight and Does Not Loosen After 2 or 3 Hits, because the Engine is Turning, then Remove the Spark Plug and Take it to a Hardware Store and Purchase a Bolt with the Same Threads and Diameter and About 4" Long. Make Sure that 3" if the Bolt is Threaded. Put the Bolt in the Spark Plug Hole Until it Touches the Piston or Bottoms Out. If the Bolt Bottoms Out, then Turn the Engine in the Normal Rotation of Operation Until the Piston is Jammed Against the Bolt. Now Use the Chisel and Hammer to Loosen the Clutch Assembly by Hitting it in the Same Direction as the Engine Rotation. Once the Clutch Assembly is Off you Pull the Clutch Drum Off the Drive Shaft and Replace the Drum and Bearings. If the Drum is Worn Out, it Will Not be Long and the Bearings will be a Problem. Usually the Seize to the Crankshaft. You can View a Breakdown/IPL of the Mower at this Site Addy, http://hayward.arinet.com/scripts/EmpartISAPI.dll?MF&app=ASP&lang=EN&TF=Mainfram... and Select the Catalog Poulan/Weed Eater. Then Select Poulan. Then Select Gas. Then Select Saw. Then Select the Model (2000). Then Select Power Unit. Hope this Helps. I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Let me Know What Happens, Please. Thanks.

Good Luck
