I took off carb and cleaned, reinstalled it and it ran great. It's on an old Merry tiller, I took it to the garden and it tilled great. When I ran it back to the house it died like you cut a light off right before I got there. It had sat no telling how long outside with a tarp over it, got it an estate sale last year and just got around to tinkering with it. Ya think points spring broke maybe? It's not sparking when I take the plug wire off and hold it near.

From your Description, it Sounds like the Point Set Needs Replacing. I Suggest you Replace the Point Set with an Aftermarket Ignition Module. They are Simple to Install and the Flywheel Does Not have to be Removed. The Module I Use is Rotary # 8786. Most Small Engine Service Centers can Order it for you. Hope this Helps.
