Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): sears 247-299771, briggs and stratton, steering wheel puller

Question
I have the same tiller, but I can not get it to fire.  Are the coils likely to go bad?  Are you able to get new coils for that engine still or am I better off just replacing the motor?  If that is best what would the best engine to replace it with be?  Thank you for your time!

Answer
Hello Brian:

This Engine Came with Either the Magnetron (Coil with Electronic Ignition Built into it) or a Point Set Located Under the Flywheel. Check for Point Set Under the Flywheel. Remove the Blower Housing (metal engine cover). Remove the Flywheel Nut or Starter Cup (Depends on the Model). Now Attach a Steering Wheel Puller to the Flywheel Using the Threaded Holes in the Flywheel. Tighten the Puller. Now Hit the Puller with a Hammer. Repeat this Procedure Until the Flywheel Pops Up or can be Lifted Off the Crankshaft. The Point Set is Located Under an Aluminum Cover that is Around the Crankshaft and Held in Place with 2 Screws. You can View and Purchase the Point Set or the Coil from this Site Addy,  http://www.outdoordistributors.com/ and Select the B. Then Select Briggs and Stratton. Then Select Don't have Part Numbers. Then Select the File # 13. Then Select the Folder # 130200. Your Engine Model According to the Sears Site is B&S 130202-0968. If the Engine is in Good Running Condition, then Replace the Point Set with a Solid State Ignition Module. They are Simple to Install and can be Purchased at Most Small Engine Service Centers. The Module is a Rotary Part #8786 and is Called Nova ll. The Nova Simply Replaces the Point Set and is Bolted to the Engine on the Outside of the Flywheel Area. I Usually Cut the Wires Leading to the Point Set Close to the Flywheel and Connect them to the Nova on the Outside of the Blower Housing. There are Instructions in the Box on How to Install it. The Nova will Give Less Problems than the Point Set and Usually Cost About $20.00. Hope this Helps. I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Let me Know What Happens, Please. Thanks.

Good Luck
