Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): stihl 025, air mixture, spark arrestor

Question
john, I have a stihl 025. Been a great saw for 8 years but, last week while sawing, it would run great until you laid the blade on some wood, as if that little 'tension' would be too much. A friend told me tonight he had one do that and it was the 'magneto'. Does that sound right and could I repair it myself...or best if the stihl dealership did?

Answer
Hello Chris:

Not Really. From your Description, it Sounds like the Carburetor is Out of Adjustment or Requires Cleaning. Open the Main Air Mixture Screw 1/4 Turn. If this helps abut Does Not Completely Correct the Problem, thne Turn the Main Jet Screw 1/4 Turn Again. If the Main Air Mixture Screw has to be Turned More than 1/2 Turn, then the Carburetor Needs to be Cleaned. The Main Air Mixture Screw is the One CLosest to the Engine on the Side of the Carburetor. Has the Exhaust Port and Muffler been Checked for Carbon Blockage? Check the Spark Arrestor Screen in the Muffler also. With Stihl, I Suggest you Take the Saw to a Dealer. Hope this Helps. I am here if you Require more Assistance. Let me know what Happens, Please. Thanks.

Good Luck
