Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Echo Chainsaw will not start, echo chainsaw, compression gauge

Question

Subject   Echo Chainsaw will not start
Question   Hi
I have an Echo cs 4400 Chainsaw that I can not get working.
The engine will not fire up.
I pull the cord and I know the plug is firing because I can see it in the dark. The plug is warm when I take it out of the engine. I know that it is getting gas because the spark plug cylinder is wet and I can see it in the cylcinder when I take off the muffler. I see puffs of smoke coming out of the exhaust when I pull it alot. I have tried putting starting fluid in the carb and it does not turn over or fire up at all. I tried a new sparg plug with no help. It it not very old and it is only used three times a year. It has compression when you put your finger over the spark plug hole. If you have any suggestion please let me know
Thanks Len

Answer   Did you measure the compression with a compression gauge?  Will is start with the muffler off the engine?
Is you gas mix less than 30 days old?
Let me know.
Eric

I do not have a compression tester. I did change the gas twice. The engine will not start with the muffler off

Answer
Hello Len:

The Finger Over the Spark Plug Hole Does Not Work. You Need a Compression Gauge. I Try to Keep My Fuel Mix Cycled Every 3 Months. No Longer, Even with the Stabil and Carburetor Cleaner Added to it. Yes, You can Run the Engine with the Muffler Off. Hope this Helps. I am here if you Require more Assistance. Let me know what Happens, Please. Thanks.

Good Luck
