Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): chainsaw, exhaust port, gas filter

Question
John-
I have a 3 year old Stihl farm boss, 18" bar. It has run well to date but within the last few days has started cutting out after it runs for awhile ... 5 minutes or so. I cleaned the outside thoroughly thinking that it was overheating and replaced the airfilter. I also removed the plug and cleaned it. It did not look too worn, though it is the original plug. I am going to replace the plug because I am not sure what else to do. Any suggestions? Thanks for your condsideration.

Mike

Answer
Hello Mike:

First, Remove the Muffler and Inspect the Exhaust Port for Carbon Blocking the Exhaust Port. Check the Muffler and Spark Arrestor Screen (in the muffler) for Blockage Also. Have you Changed the Gas Filter in the Tank? Check the Gas Tank Cap and Ensure it is Venting Properly. Does the Engine have Fire to the Spark Plug when this Happens? Hope this Helps. I am here if you Require more Assistance. Let me know what Happens, Please. Thanks.

Good Luck
