Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Craftsman lawn tractor 917.272065, craftsman lawn tractor, solenoid starter

Question
I have had problems starting my mower, it would slowly turn over (like a dead battery) and most of the time start, other times I would hook up the chrger and it woul dfire right away. Well.. I got a new battery and first time out when I stopped to empty the clippings it did the same thing. I cheked the battery and it is fully charged. I managed to finish mowing, then today - nothing! Only a faint click. Battery is still fine. What could it be? solenoid?? starter??

Answer
Hello Tom:

From your Description, it Sounds like the Valves Require Adjustment or you have a Binding Starter. Remove the Starter and have it Checked. If the Starter is Good, then Remove the Valve Cover and Reset the Valve Clearance. Turn the Cylinder to TDC and then Loosen the Valve Adjuster Lock. Set the Intake Valve to .004in - .006in and the Exhaust Valve to .008in - .010in. You can View a Breakdown/IPL of this Engine at this Site Addy, http://www.smallenginepartswarehouse.com/parts.asp and Select the Shop Online Parts Look Up. Then Select the Model Tab. Then Select the OEM and Enter the Model Numbers (CV460-26509). Then Double Click on the Model in the Results Area. This is the Model Number of the Engine on you Mower. Now you can Select the Section of the Engine you Wish to View. Hope this Helps. I am here if you Require more Assistance. Let me know what Happens, Please. Thanks.

Good Luck
