I have a craftsmen riding mower model # 917-275810 it has a 18.5 briggs engine model # 31p777 type 0296. it died the other day real bad (blew up) I don't have the time to rebuilt it and haven't had the best luck overhauling small engines. so i have been looking for a replacement for it but haven't been able to find that model or type around. could you tell me were i can find one or is there a another engine i can use on this rider. and maybe could i go up in h.p. or list any web site that could, tanks

There are Several Engines that Will Rep;ace the One you have. The Replacement Engine that is Called for on this Mower is a 31Q777, Type 0036. You can View a Breakdown/IPL of this Engine at this Site Addy, http://www.smallenginepartswarehouse.com/parts.asp and Select the Shop Online Parts Look Up. Then Select the Model Tab. Then Select the OEM and Enter the Model Numbers. Then Double Click on the Model in the Results Area. Now you can Select the Section of the Engine you Wish to View. Select the Engine Replacement Folder. This Folder Gives the Suggested Replacement for the Engine, Short Block and Crankshaft.
