Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Craftsman Engine Repair, float bowl, fuel line

Question
I also was in the military. I have a craftsman 6.25 22" mower.  It seems to be starved of fuel.  Last time I ran it it slowly lost power.  When trying several days later, I prime it and it runs great for a few seconds then shuts off.  I removed fuel tank and cleaned it and the fuel line.  Mower will start when primed with the butrton then shut off.  Am suspecting blockage after fuel line possibly in carb.  Can this be worked on fairly easily.  Anny suggestions.  Paul

Answer
You definitely need to clean the carb.  As repairs go this is a 3 on a scale of 1-10.

Pull the carb off, disassemble and clean with a GOOD carb cleaner, I recommend GUMOUT.

Pay close attention to the holes in the bolt that hold the float bowl on. This is where your problem lies.
