Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): John Deere LX176 Wiring question, john deere lx176, regulator rectifier

Question
I have a John Deere LX176 that I just replaced the engine in. The harness coming from the stator on the original engine had two black wires that join with a harness into one brown wire with a white stripe and one brown wire with a yellow stripe. I need to know which of the brown striped wires gets the AC voltage and which gets the DC voltage. Thanks, Chris

Answer
They both get AC.  The br/y and b wires go directly to the regulator rectifier.

Now comes the "Truth"

You saved a little money and bought an engine that would fit, not the original engine.  Admit it I'm right.   You are going to have to pull off the new flywheel and stator and install your old charging system.  The Charging system in your new engine is made for a commercial walk behind that doesn't have a battery.   If I'm wrongly accusing you of being "thrifty" I apologize.  I see this in my shop about 10 times a year.  If I'm correct I expect you to hail the greatness of the all seeing "Truthmeister".

No matter what, both brown wires get AC and go to the regulator rectifier.
