Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): John Deere 68 differential gears, differential gears, spider gears

do you know if I can still buy the differential gears or spider gears for a Model 68 riding Mower? bAnd if so where can I get them?

You no longer can buy just the gears.  You have to buy a complete axle/differential retrofit kit.  Part # am134983 list price is 225.00.

Time to tell the old girl goodby. Remember when you replace it, you have learned from experience, NOTHING RUNS LIKE A DEERE.

Have you taken the chain case apart. The chain tensioners are still avaiable and will fix a lot of problems. I have never seen failed dif gears in any lawn tractor or riding mower, NEVER!  See if the adjusters are in good shape before putting the "68" out to pasture.  My wife has a "68" in her flower garden.  It makes an interesting "sculpture" when surronded by marigolds and daisies
