Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): snapper big six B&S, engine model type, starter fluid

Question
QUESTION: First off great web site very useful info! I have snapper big six engine that is hard to start when cold. starts ok after running a bit. if i prime it wants to start then nothing, seems to be flooded after that. to start the engine i must remove the air filter and give it a shot of starter fluid. i have already rebuilt the carb with factory parts and still no fix. thanks for your help!

ANSWER: Have you checked the intake tube/manifold screws and gasket?  Is the air filter housing to carb gasket damaged?  These gaskets frequently break when you remove the filter housing?
What is the engine model, type and code number?
Let me know.

QUESTION: yes eric, i replaced both the gasket and the o-ring. they came with the overhaul kit for the carb. the engine is a 6hp b&s, model#12h802-2631-e1 , code#98080658. thanks

Answer
With the air filter off, look inside the carb throat using a flashlight while priming the engine.  Do you see any fuel in the bottom of the carb when you press the primer bulb?

Did you replace the primer bulb?  Did you blow through all the carb orfices with compressed air from an air compressor?
Is the tube, intake manifold, that runs from the carb to the block cracked or loose?
Let me know.
