Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): john deere 14sb, kawasaki models, department stocks

Question
I have a john deere 14sb mower.  The last time I used it, it died when it got hot, and would not start again, even when it cooled off.  There appears to be no spart at all.  I have two questions for you...first, do you feel that the coil is gone? and second, is this coil interchangeable with other kawasaki models.  The model # of the mower is fc150v-cs00.  The John Deere part # for the coil is AM121796.  Thanks in advance for your help.

Answer
The coil is not interchangable.  Most SBs also have an ignitor.  It's a small metal box about 1"X1" mounted on the throttle control plate.  If you have an ignitor this is far more likely your problem.  According to the tech manual the only way to test an ignitor is to replace it with a known good unit. It could still be the coil. My parts department stocks 8 ignitors and 0 coils.   If you don't have an ignitor it is built into the coil.
