Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Stihl Chain Saw no spark, bad hope, multimeter

Question
Hi John. I have a stihl MS210 saw that has only been used a couple times. It wouldn't start so I checked for spark, none. The kill sw is not grounding in the run position. I would like to check the magneto next but need instructions on how to do so with a multimeter. I assume I will have to remove the flywheel to get to it? I have no service manual so I was wondering if you also had any links to a parts explosion which would help me understand what I was dealing with? This saw is so new its hard for me to believe the mag failed already but who knows. I have searched for any more interlock/kill switches but can't find any. Thanks, Walter

Answer
Hello Walter:

The Coil/Magneto will Either Fire the Plug or it Won't. Remove the Cut Off Wire at the Coil/Magneto. Turn the Engine. If the Plug Fires, then the Wire or Switch is Bad. If the Plug Doesn,t Fire, then the Coil/Magneto is Bad. Hope this Helps. I am here if you Require more Assistance. Let me know what Happens, Please. Thanks.

Good Luck
