Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): JD 111 carb linkeage, revels tractor, fuquay varina nc

Question
QUESTION: Paul,
I just inherited my father-in-law's 1984 JD111.  It is in really good condition, except that the carburator linkeage (two wire links and a spring) are missing. I can make it run by manually holding the throttle and choke.  The model/type/code numbers are 53707 0155-01 84030910.  where can I find these parts.  Thanks.

ANSWER: Why are people so afraid of their Deere dealer.  He got to be where he is because he is honest and offers excellent service.

Us Deere folks get a bad rap.  People think if it says Deere they are going to pay extra.  Deere is so huge in the power equipment world that they actually offer the lowest parts prices of anyone.  In this case you would get a part in a Briggs box at Deere prices, Usually about 7% less.

The engine number you gave me was missing a digit. I can give you Deere numbers.  If your serial number is below 295,00 you need a M82673, M82674 wich are the links.  If over 295001 you need M86378 and M86379.  Both models use an M81281 spring.   All 3 parts combined are under 9.00.  Your dealer won't have them in stock. Ask him to "stock order" them.  On a "stock order" he can order any part freight free in 2 days.  DON'T LET HIM CHARGE FOR FREIGHT.

QUESTION: Paul,

One more data point for you.  My "official" dealer is Revels Tractor in Fuquay-Varina, NC.  I live in Raleigh, NC 30 miles away.  The online JD ordering system gave me the $25 amount referred to Revel's.

This weekend, I noticed an add for Revel's branch in Raleigh, so I gave them a call.  I gave the parts man the same parts info, which you said should cost $9.  His quote was over $30.  I told him about the $25 online price, and he said they charge %5 more than the Revel's main group in Fuqua (the actual difference is ~25%).

So,I am afraid I can't verify your comments about JD dealer's getting a bad rap, etc.  If you are a Deere dealer, will you sell me the parts for $9?

Answer
With UPS and handling charges it will be about 20.00.

If you want to drive to Kansas City I can hook you up for 9.00.

I will however give the boys in Fuquay and Raleigh a call on Monday and let them know I appreciate them upholding the Deere Dealer stereotype. Asses.
