Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Craftsman Wheeled Weed Eater, ring needle, rubber tip

Question
QUESTION: Hi John,

My Craftsman High-Wheeled weed eater is about 5 years old. There is a red tube running from carb to breather. If I put gas in the tank, it all spills out the red tube. I disassembled the carb once, reassembled and it worked just briefly before the problem began again. Any help?

ANSWER: Hello Jack:

The Carburetor Needle Isn't Stopping the Gas FLow as it is Designed to. Remove, Disassemble and Soak the Carburetor Overnight in Carburetor Cleaner (I use Gunk). Then Blow Out the Passages with Compressed Air. Install a New Kit if Required. Pay Close Attention to the Needle and Seat. If the Needle and Seat are Not Installed Properly the Carburetor will Flood. Send me the Model Numbers Off the Engine, Please. With these I can Locate the Proper Manual and Better Assist you. Hope this Helps. I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Let Me Know What Happens, Please. Thanks.

Good Luck

QUESTION: Model: Sears 143.003504 (Craftsman Weed Eater)
Carb Part No: 640262A (original 640262)
Carb Build: Tecumseh LEV115-350144E (??)

I've removed the carb and disassembled the fuel bowl. Removed a blue plastic needle which I believe to be the fuel well spacer. That passage was junked up and I cleaned it out. Haven't removed the welch plug yet as I cannot find a carb kit for my carb. Where to now, John? Thanks.

Answer
Hello Again Jack:

Do Not Remove the Welch Plug. It is Not Required for Cleaning if you are Soaking the Carburetor. Have you Tried to Locate a Kit Online? Try Outdoor Distributors @ Outdoordistributors.com/ or Call them @ 1-877-707-2787. Usually a Kit Consists of the Bowl O-Ring, Needle and Seat or a Needle with a Black Rubber Tip and Sometimes a New Main Jet. Hope this Helps. I am here if you Require more Assistance.
