Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Adjusting Brake on Tractor, lawn tractor, brake pads

Question
I have a John Deere 111 Lawn Tractor that I have used for 23 seasons !! Recently the brakes has been just about useless. It has been so long since I adjusted it, I forget how to do it. I think the adjustment is a nut on the  inside  back  off the right back wheel.  But what is the proper procedure for tightening the break? DO I need to have someone push on the brake pedal while I loosen and then tighten the nut? Thank you.

Answer
What I do is lay on the ground behind the tractor with the brakes locked.

I adjust the nut on the caliper while rocking the tractor back and forth.  When the tires skid instead of roll I quit tightening.

You know Kevin you might actually need new brake pads every 23 years or so!. They cost about 11.00 and if it keeps you from hitting the wife's roses it will be worth every penny.
