Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Simplicity Tiller B & S 3hp 4 cycle, briggs and stratton, briggs stratton

Question
I have an old (1960's or 70's?) Simplicity front tine garden tiller with a Briggs & Stratton 3hp four cycle engine - model #80202 0252-02 74060403.  I am attempting to replace the magneto, but I cannot figure out how to remove the flywheel.  Please explain how to remove flywheel so I can re-connect the wiring.  Thanks!

Answer
Hello Paul:

The Magneto/Coil is Located on the Outside of the Flywheel. The Point Set is Located Under the Flywheel. I Suggest you Replace the Point Set with the Add On Ignition Module. It is a Rotary Part #8786 (Nova) and Replaces the Point Set with Electronic Ignition. Most Small Engine Service Centers will have or can Order the Ignition Module for you. You Do Not have to Remove the Flywheel to Do this. However, Remove the Blower Housing (metal engine cover). Remove the Starter Clutch using a Pipe Wrench. Then Using a Steering Wheel Puller; Attach the Puller to the Flywheel using the Holes Provided in the Flywheel. Tighten the Puller and then Hit the Puller. Repeat this Process (Usually Twice) Until the Flywheel Jumps or Comes Loose from the Crankshaft. Then Lift the Flywheel from the Crankshaft. Remember the Flywheel is Torqued to 150 Ft Pounds. You can View a Breakdown/IPL of the Engine at this Site Addy, You can View a Breakdown/IPL of the Engine at this Site Addy, http://www.outdoordistributors.com/ and Select the B. Then Select Briggs and Stratton. Then Select Don't have Part Numbers. Then Select the File #8.  Then Select the First Folder #80200. Breakdown/IPL #333 is the Coil/Magneto and is Located on Page 3 of 28. The Point Set is Also on Page 3 of 28 and is Breakdown/IPL #375. If this Engine has No Fire to the Plug, then the Point Set Needs Replacing. Hope this Helps. I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Let Me Know What Happens, Please. Thanks.

Good Luck
