Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): John Deere Lawnmower will not start, john deere l100, blown head gasket

Question
My riding lawnmower( John Deere L100 with 17 hp Intek motor) currently won't start and I am not sure what exactly is the cause.  I have spark, it turns over fine, I am getting gas at the carburetor, plenty of power from the battery, starter works great.  It is about 1 1/2 years old.  Any ideas as to the cause.?

Answer
Hello Jason:

Check the Flywheel Key. If Damaged the Fire to the Plug is Firing at the Wrong Time. If you Pour a Small Amount of Gas (1 oz) Into the Carburetor Throat and Try to Start the Engine, Does the Engine Start and Quit? If Yes, then the Check the Carburetor Fuel Shut Off Solenoid in the Base of the Carburetor. Remove the Solenoid and Replace it with a Bolt the Same Diameter and Threads that is Between 1/2" and 3/4" Long. If the Engine Starts and Runs, then Replace the Carburetor Solenoid. If No Effect, then Remove, Disassemble and Soak the Carburetor Overnight in Carburetor Cleaner (I use Gunk). Then Blow Out the Passages with Compressed Air. Install a New Kit if Required. If No, then Check the Compression. Compression Should be No Less Than 80 psi. A Blown Head Gasket or Stuck Valve Will Cause this Problem. Hope this Helps. I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Let Me Know What Happens, Please. Thanks.

Good Luck
