Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Starting cord, briggs and stratton, lawn mower

I just purchased a Weed Eater lawn mower a week ago. I went to start the lawn mower today and the starting cord will not retract. What can be done to correct the problem or should I just return the mower?

You can take the mower to a repair shop for warranty or take it back and exchange it.  

While true warranties are fairly rare if a problem does appear within a few hours of operation I would try to exchange the mower for a different one.

Is the engine a Briggs and Stratton or Tecumseh?
