Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): GEN-PRO GENERATOR, squeeze the trigger, gcaa

Question
Here's the truth and nothing but the truth!!!! Our generator engine starts & runs fine. It was working fine before, it has been unused for a time and kept inside/dry. It, however, is not producing any electricity. My husband is in the electrical field(25 yrs) has an ohmeter/voltmeter and actually knows how to use! Just saying this to let ya know we are somewhat mechanically/electrically inclined!!!
The facts: GEN-PRO (with Kleen-Power) By Gillette

Please advise.

Answer
Sounds like you need to flash the field.
Plug a drill into the outlet and fire the generator up. With the generator running squeeze the trigger on the drill and spin the chuck backwards as fast as you can. This will set the polarity on the gen set in the right direction. If the field is the problem it will immediately start the drill running. If this doesn't fix it you will have to get a spec sheet from the manufacturer and start running tests. Impossible to guess where to start because there are to many places to look.
The most common Gen failure we dill with in my shop is mice!!!
They crawled into the control box and build a nest. This is where I'd start if the drill thing doesn't fix it. Generator diagnostics are always tough and I'll be the first to admit it.
I went to New Orleans when the big one hit. 80% of the generators they brought me had smoked stators and usually weren't worth fixing. I'm not talking about 10 I'm talking 500!
I thought Gillette built razors not generators.
