Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): bolens, briggs stratton, jumper cable

Question
how do you know if your starter is bad or is the celloid is bad if i ground out cell motor will start,it's a briggs & stratton 15.5 hp

Answer
Hello Clyde:

You Know the Battery is Good, So; Use a Jumper Cable Set and Attach the Positive Lead to the Battery in the Mower. Firmly Touch the Large Post on the Starter. If the Starter Turns the Engine Properly, then The Starter is Good. Now Jumper to the Small Post on the Solenoid. If the Starter Turns, then the Solenoid is Good and the Problem May be a Safety Switch or the Ignition Switch. Send me the Model Numbers Off the Mower and the Engine, Please. With these I can Locate the Proper Manuals and Better Assist you. Hope this Helps. I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Let Me Know What Happens, Please. Thanks.

Good Luck
