Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Honda Harmony 215 50 Hydrostatic drive, honda push mowers, arinet

Question
QUESTION: How do you get to the transmission to add fluid? The mower is 8 yr old and the transmission clatters a bit when first engaged and does the same when the bag is about half full. I don't see any bolts or screws to remove the deck.

Thanks

Fred
ANSWER: Hello Fred:

If the Hydro Doesn't have Rubber Plugs on the Top of the Transaxle Housing under the Seat, then it is a Non Serviceable Hydro. I Usually Drill and  tap a Fill Hole in the Housing. Then Add SAE30 Engine Oil 1/2 Pint at the time Until the Hydro Engages or Until I Have Added 2 Pints if it is Just Noisy. Hope this Helps. I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Let Me Know What Happens, Please. Thanks.

QUESTION: John

This is not a riding mower, so there is no seat to look under.

Thanks

Answer
Hello Again Fred:

This is a Sealed Unit. I Apologize for the Mistake. I forgot that Some Honda Push Mowers have a what some People call a Hydro Transmission.  You can View a Breakdown/IPL of the Mower and Transmission at this Site Addy, http://hayward.arinet.com/scripts/EmpartISAPI.dll?MF&app=ASP&lang=EN&TF=Mainfram and Select the Catalog American Honda. Then Select Lawn Mower. Then Scroll Down to and Select your Model. You can Drill and Tap the Right Casing the Same as you Would a Riding Hydro. Use 80W90 Gear Lube. 1/4 Pint Should do it. I Suggest you Disassemble and Repair the Transmission or Replace it. If it is Chattering when First Engaged and When the Bag is Nearly Full, then it is Not Going to be Long Before it Locks Up. Once Again i Do Apologize for the Misunderstanding. Hope this Helps. I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Let Me Know What Happens, Please. Thanks.

Good Luck
