Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): engine, george thourogood, compression release

Question
how much compression should a john deere 14sb mower have?

Answer
A 14SB doesn't really have a compression rating because of the compression release on the cam.
This is the baddest mower ever built! As "George Thourogood" would say it's "bbbaadd, bad to the bone."
If you think you have low compression here's what you need to do.
I'm guessing you think you have low compression because you have to pull the rope 5 or 6 times before it will start. Once it is started it then runs BBBAD, BAD TO THE BONE. If this is what's happening, do this, turn the fuel off every time you are done mowing.EVERY TIME!
No matter what don't ditch this mower for another. Admit it, it's the greatest mower you have ever walked behind. You never knew a mower could be so good until you got a 14SB. Shoot, my neighbors will mow my grass for me if I let them use my mower on their lawn. I have a 17 year old 14SB, it's starts on the first pull every time IF I turn the gas off.
If you have troubles, bite the bullet and take it to a dealer, it will be the best money you ever spent in your life.
