Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): oil in carburetor, crankcase breather, breather vent

Question
i am trying to purchase a snapper riding mower sr1433 model# 331418dve the owner had someone to service it and she said he forgot to put back on the oil filter and that oil got into the carburetor he told her to not try and start it. does leaving the filter off cause this or could something else also cause this problem? is this something that can be reasonably fixed? thanks for your help.

Answer
Hello Spencer:

Usually the Only Cause for Oil in the Carburetor is the Crankcase Breather/Vent Not Working Properly, the Crankcase Overfilled with Oil or the Engine was Tilted too Far and the Crankcase Breathe/Vent Got Oil in it and is Trying to Clear Itself. You can View a Breakdown/IPL of the Mower at this Site Addy, http://www.emerichsales.com/home.asp and Select the Shop Online Part Look Up. Then Select the Model Tab. Then Select the OEM (Snapper). Then Enter the Model Number. Hope this Helps. I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Let Me Know What Happens, Please. Thanks.

Good Luck
