Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): JD 335 starter wont engage, electrical jumper, starter solenoid

Question
While cutting the lawn for the first time this year I noted my JD 335 was bogging down under the load of the mower deck.
I had previously cleaned and greased the mower, charged the battery to a full 13.2V and put in fresh gas.
I stopped the tractor and pulled one of the spark plugs to see if it was fouled. It looked clean so I reinstalled it.
I turned the key to start the tractor and though the ignition light comes on the starter does not engage. The 15amp starter fuse is good. All wires appear to be tight. How can I bypass the ignition switch to see if this is the problem? Is there is a method to test the solenoid and starter?
The engine is the Kawasaki 20HP V-Twin. Any help you can offer will be appreciated.

Answer
Hello Gary:

This Sounds like a Safety Switch Problem. Go to this Site Addy, http://jdpc.deere.com/jdpc/servlet/com.deere.u90490.partscatalog.view.servlets.H... and Enter the Model Numbers 335 and Click Find. Then Select the Model in the Results Area. Then Select Sectional Index. Then Select Electrical. Jumper from the Large Post to Large Post on the Starter Solenoid. If the Engine Turns, then You Need to Jumper the Brake/Clutch Safety and then the Blade Safety Switch if the Clutch/Brake Switch Isn't the Cause. Hope this Helps. I am here if you Require more Assistance. Let me know what Happens, Please. Thanks.

Good Luck
