Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Briggs&Stratton 12 hp Starts and Stalls, briggs and stratton, briggs stratton

Question
Hi John,

I have a Briggs and Stratton 12 HP I/C engine on a Husqvarna Rider 850-12. I recently purchased this used and tried to start it. It starts and runs a bit rough for a minute (preferring slow rpms) or so before stalling out. It tends to oscillate/rev after about 15 seconds and slowly becomes labored and stalls. If I wait a few seconds and try starting it again, it will run the same way, but for a shorter time. I have cleaned the air filter but not replaced any parts or cleaned carberator yet.

Anyway, thank you for any help you can offer.

Shawn

Answer
Hello Shawn:

Make Sure the Gas is Free Flowing to the Carburetor. From your Description it Sounds like the Carburetor need to be Removed, Disassembled and Soaked Overnight in Carburetor Cleaner(I use Gunk. Then Blow Out the Passages with Compressed Air and Install New Kit. You May Be Able to Locate a Breakdown/IPL at this Site Addy, http://shop.briggsandstratton.com/BShopProductListingPage.asp?rsvp=0&PARENTID=0&... and Enter the Model Numbers and the First 4 Type Numbers. Then Select View PDF. Hope this Helps. I am here if you Require more Assistance. Let me know what Happens, Please. Thanks.

Good Luck
