Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): recoil starter rope assembly honda HR214, recoil starter, starter rope

I gave my good running 25 yr old Honda walkbehind HR214 lawnmower to a family, but the starter pull rope broke. They brought me the assembly from top of the engine, and I have replaced the rope so it pulls and recoils back into the assembly. But when I put it back on the mower, I realized I didn't know how it attaches to and turns the engine to start. I've never had it off before. I pull the rope, the inside spins, and, of course, the engine doesn't turn. Any web site for diagrams of this? Any suggestions?  Thanks !!

When you pull the string do any starter pawls come out from the center of the starter pulley?

Do a search for Tecumseh starter repair and see what you find.  Serveral sites contain detail repair instructions that may help you.
